Preferential Certificate of Origin
Last reviewed 29 September 2026
What it is
A certificate of origin issued under a specific trade-preference scheme (EAC, SADC, AfCFTA, AGOA, GSP, or China preferential access), allowing the buyer to claim a reduced or zero import tariff under that scheme rather than the standard rate.
When it's required
Required whenever the exporter or buyer wants to claim preferential tariff treatment under one of these schemes, instead of (or alongside) an ordinary Certificate of Origin. Tanzania is a founding EAC Customs Union member, a SADC member, has ratified the AfCFTA agreement, and is currently AGOA-eligible per the US Trade Representative.
Who typically prepares it
Issued by TNCC, same eCO portal as the ordinary Certificate of Origin, with a separate fee per scheme (EAC, AGOA, China, SADC, GSP, AfCFTA each priced differently).
