Government Chemist Laboratory Authority

Dar es Salaam (Ocean Road); zonal offices in Dodoma, Arusha, Mbeya, Mtwara, Mwanza · GCLA

About GCLA

Established under the Government Chemist Laboratory Authority Act No. 8 of 2016 as Tanzania's supreme referral laboratory for forensic science and product/chemical quality and safety. Its statutory functions include laboratory analysis of the quality and safety of agricultural and industrial products, carried out via ISO 17025:2017-accredited Food and Drugs and Microbiology laboratories — commonly used for aflatoxin and heavy-metal testing of export commodities such as cashew and spices. Heavy-metals testing (Tea/Coffee/Cocoa/Herbs/Spices matrix) is a real, board-approved, priced commercial service but is not within GCLA's current SADCAS/ILAC-accredited scope (certificate TEST-5 0014, accredited scope limited to edible salt).
